Who we care for

Children

Squint, lazy eye, glasses and trouble seeing the school board. Many children never complain; they simply adjust.

People with diabetes

Diabetes can damage the retina long before your vision changes. A yearly eye examination finds it early.

Adults over 40

Cataract, reading glasses and regular checks for eye conditions that begin without any symptoms.

Common questions

How often should a person with diabetes get an eye check?

At least once a year, even if your sugar is controlled and your vision seems normal. People with type 2 diabetes should have their first dilated eye exam when diabetes is diagnosed. Your doctor may advise more frequent checks if changes are found, or during pregnancy.

When should my child have their first eye check?

Babies' eyes are checked at birth and during early check-ups. Every child should have a vision check between ages 3 and 5, before starting school, and sooner if you notice a turned eye, squinting, or holding things very close.

Does a cataract need to "ripen" before surgery?

No. Modern cataract surgery does not require waiting for the cataract to become "ripe". Surgery is usually advised when blurry vision starts affecting daily life, such as reading, driving or work. Waiting too long can make surgery more difficult.
